Iowa Citizen Action Network Education Foundation (ICAN EF) has united Iowa’s progressives for over 20 years, and is leading efforts to change the public climate for progressive change. We are uniting citizens, communities and organizations that share a common progressive vision for the future of Iowa, and mobilizing Iowans to take collective action to alter the relations of power and improve the lives of all Iowans.
ICAN EF provides organizing, research, public education materials, training and networking support for issue campaigns to ICAN and its coalition affiliates.

Our recent activities include:

  • Providing research and education on Election Day Registration (EDR) in the successful effort to pass EDR in Iowa
  • Hosting a candidate forum with five candidates for governor and eight presenters from across Iowa sharing their personal stories and connecting it with the overall health of our communities and state
  • Working with organizations across Iowa to raise awareness about the federal budget and the effect of budget cuts onIowa’s most vulnerable populations
  • Leading a massive nonpartisan voter registration and mobilization project that registered 10,000 new voters, turned out 20,000 unlikely voters and increased voting participation by 14% in targeted precincts
  • Conducting the Medicare Education Project to educate beneficiaries about Medicare D, included hosting 50 forums attended by thousands of Iowans
